The
statistical report says that a total of 128532 couples had their marriage
registration processed in Shanghai in the year 2010, among whom 126296 were
couples of the mainland of China, a decrease by 14.33% over the figure in the
previous year, with the average marriage age for males being 32.45 and that for
females 29.77; and the average age at their first marriage for males being 28.83
and that for females 26.51. The number of marriage registrations of couples
between the Chinese citizens and foreigners or overseas Chinese or residents of
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or residents of Macau Special
Administrative Region or residents of Taiwan was 2236 (from across 73 countries
and regions), down by 10.27% from 2009,. For divorce registrations last year,
the total number was 37738, of whom 37334 couples of Chinese citizens were
divorced on consensual basis, a decrease of 3.71% over the previous year and 404
were foreign-related divorces, or divorces with overseas Chinese, residents of
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, residents of Macau Special
Administrative Region, or residents of Taiwan, an increase of 0.50 % over the
previous year. Throughout the year 2010, there were 4636 couples having counselling provided at the marriage & divorce
registration authorities and with the mediation by these authorities, 1338
couples decided not to get divorced, making the rate of successful counseling
reach up to 28.86%.
